Bitcoin is a "digital currency". As the story goes, some magical person created this sytsem on the internet that allowed computer programmers to do weird repetitive tasks to earn a bitcoin which they could then add to a global digital register. They mimic'd the story to match the idea of mining gold. There are many flaws with the story but let's skip those for now. Once a digital coin is added to the ledger, it is viewed as having value to others and thus it is viable tender for trading.
The advantage of bitcoin, in theory is privacy, no transaction fees and monetary decentralization.
In order to accept bitcoin and hold bitcoin you will need to have a "bitcoin wallet". Opponets of bitcoin often share concerns about using bitcoin for illicit activities, such as human traffickind and sex trafficking. Bitcoin advocates always dismiss this concern without reasonable basis, or so it seems to those trying to use common sense.
Bitcoin has many national and global advocates.
Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter and Square (a credit card processing system), is one of the most well known voices for Bitcoin. He and a few other well known figures have done programs related to Bitcoin education.
Prof St Onge is a right leaning economist with a Twitter show and a blog. He is currently a lesser known figure who also promotes bitcoin.
We will try to add more information here and/or links for Bitcoin education as time permits.
